Edmonton Opera Opera Live at Citadel Theatre | Edmonton – May 25th, 2026
The Maclab Theatre, part of the Citadel Theatre complex, is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Edmonton, and it’s got this cozy yet versatile vibe that really draws you in. It’s where magic happens, literally, since this is where that incredible magician wowed audiences with jaw-dropping close-up tricks that left everyone scratching their heads. Over the years, the theatre has become a favorite spot for all kinds of performances, thanks to its top-notch sound and lighting systems that make every show feel intimate and immersive. You might not realize it, but the theatre’s stage is built tough enough to handle big scenery and lively dance numbers, no worries about the set falling apart mid-performance. And if you’re into community stuff, in 1998 they started a regular workshop for young aspiring artists, which is pretty cool, kind of a local incubator for future talent. The seating’s thoughtfully designed too, with the mid-Balcony offering a perfect combo of height and closeness to the action. Plus, they’ve got designated seats for our brave emergency personnel, which is a nice touch. If you’re heading there from the Art Gallery or downtown library, just walk west along Avenue 102 and you’ll find the Maclab Theatre waiting for you, whether you’re catching a local show or an Edmonton Opera Edmonton production, it’s a space that truly invites you in for a night of entertainment that stays with you long after the curtains close.
